Recently, Bainbridge High School students wrapped up one of the most innovative and energizing STEM experiences our district has ever hosted—the first-ever AMP Races, made possible through a hands-on partnership with Georgia Tech.

For four weeks leading up to race day, students in the Advanced Manufacturing Pathway worked side by side with Georgia Tech instructors, diving into CAD, CAM, Python coding with Raspberry Pi, and precision machining on the school’s new Tormach CNC machine. What began as digital designs soon transformed into 3D-printed race cars engineered for speed, stability, and creativity.

When race day arrived, the excitement was unmistakable. At 8:00 a.m., students welcomed Steve Furgeson, Managing Director of Georgia AIM and Executive Director of Georgia Tech’s Manufacturing 4.0 Consortium, who kicked off the event with words of encouragement and celebration.

The races took off shortly after, filling the room with cheers as weeks of innovation came to life on the track. Multiple awards recognized both engineering precision and creative design:

AMP Races Winners

  • Engineering Award Kaleb Heard

  • 1st Place Winner: Robert West

  • 2nd Place: Kayden Harris

  • 3rd Place: Wyatt Austin

  • Overall Design Award: Kevin Barrios

  • People’s Choice Award: Mitchell Carter

Before concluding the day, our Georgia Tech guest made one final stop—a visit to Bainbridge High School’s brand-new Student Story Buddy and Bellas space.

Looking back, the AMP Races weren’t just a competition—they were a celebration of creativity, partnership, and the future of advanced manufacturing. Our students didn’t just build cars; they built confidence, skill, and momentum for what comes next.
